The 2nd International Symposium on

Voronoi Diagrams in Science and Engineering

ANNOUNCEMENTS

October 10(Mon) - 13(Thu), 2005
Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea

The 3rd Voronoi Symposium will be held

at BIRS(Banff International Research Station) in Canada

    during July 2(Sunday) ~ 5(Thursday), 2006.

The concept of the Voronoi diagram as well as its dual structure, the Delaunay diagram, is one of the most fundamental geometric big ideas, and has been discovered and re-discovered repeatedly in the history of many fields of science and engineering.

While the developments of Voronoi diagram itself are and will remain important, the discoveries of important real world problems where the Voronoi/Delaunay diagram can contribute will be also significant driving forces for the evolution of Voronoi/Delaunay diagrams.

Following the philosophy of the successful 1st symposium in 2004 at University of Tokyo, this 2nd symposium emphasizes the exchange of ideas among the different disciplines of science and engineering. In particular, the interactions and collaborations between theoretical computational geometers and researchers from various domains in science and engineering will be highly encouraged.

In this year, the symposium extends its scope even further to cover a rather new field of Voronoi diagram, the Voronoi Art. by running a sister event The First International Exhibition of Voronoi Art. Since the concept of Voronoi diagram is universal, it is not surprising to find this concept even in arts and literatures. In addition, we wish the exhibition, together with the symposium, serve a Voronoi museum so that participants can view the evolution of Voronoi diagram in the history at a glance.
